U.S. retains TPS protections for Ukrainians and Sudanese for now
Ukrainians and Sudanese enrolled in Temporary Protected Status will retain their ability to live and work in the United States for now, the Department of Homeland Security told CBS News on October 18.
Their current protections had been scheduled to expire on Monday. The department said participants would retain protection until a final decision is announced.
TPS provides temporary protection against deportation and access to work permits for people from countries where returning is unsafe. The announcement covers Ukrainian and Sudanese nationals already enrolled in the programme.
The Department of Homeland Security told CBS News that final decisions on the humanitarian programmes would be announced at the appropriate time.
