Modi urges global system to stop cyber fraud before it reaches users

At the India Mobile Congress, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged telecom operators to build a global mechanism that would detect fraud before it reaches users.

Modi also called on governments, technology companies and financial institutions to work together against cyber fraud and deepfakes. He described mobile phones as more than communication devices, saying they had become an important tool for delivering public services.

The prime minister said direct benefit transfers had sent nearly 50 trillion rupees to recipients. He said digital payments had helped prevent about 5 trillion rupees in government funds from leaking away. Modi linked the measures to a remark about people whose “easy earnings” had stopped, adding that he would continue on the same course.

In his speech, Modi recalled the launch of 5G from the same venue in 2022 and said mobile networks now supported government services, content creation in local languages and gaming. The official PM India transcript confirms the “easy earnings” quote and the figures he cited for direct transfers.
