All remaining vacancies are in the management quota at private colleges. The state authority plans an extended round of counselling.
The Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) announced the final results of the third round of allotment for medical and dental courses for the 2026–27 academic year. All dental seats have been filled, but 656 medical seats remain vacant. The Hindu reported that every one is in the management quota at private colleges. KEA plans to hold an extended counselling round.
The state has 76 medical colleges offering a total of 15,745 seats. This year, 690 places, or 15% of the seats, were set aside for non-resident Indian (NRI) students across 25 government colleges. People quoted by the newspaper said this allowed some applicants to choose government colleges instead of more expensive private institutions.
Fees for management and NRI quota seats at private colleges range from 44 lakh to 45.40 lakh rupees, while an NRI seat at a government college costs about 25 lakh rupees. The principal of one private college told the newspaper that tuition had not increased this year and attributed the vacancies to the expansion of the NRI quota at government institutions.
