Wright outlines route for sanctioned tankers to resume lawful oil trade
US Energy Secretary Chris Wright said Washington is allowing a process for some sanctioned tankers to return to lawful oil transport. He stressed that this does not amount to simply removing sanctions.
Speaking at a Citadel Securities event in New York, Wright said the vessels would no longer carry oil subject to sanctions.
He estimated that the global sanctioned dark fleet contains about 1.6 thousand tankers. The US effort could bring dozens or hundreds of vessels back into lawful service, he said.
