Yandex 360 has released a desktop version of its Documents app for Windows, macOS and Linux. It supports offline editing of text files and spreadsheets in DOCX and XLSX formats.
The company announced the release on September 17. The app includes a word processor and spreadsheet editor, as well as printing and PDF export. Support is listed for Russia’s Astra Linux, Alt SP and RED OS operating systems.
At launch, the app is designed for individual use. The desktop version lacks collaborative editing, Yandex Disk synchronisation and a PPTX presentation editor. Those functions are available in the web version or have been described as possible areas for future development, but the company has not announced dates for bringing them to the desktop app.
The app is free to install for viewing and printing. Editing is included in paid Yandex 360 plans. That differs from some desktop alternatives that offer free editing to individual users.
3DNews views the release as Yandex’s entry into the offline office-software market. The outlet notes the app’s cross-platform support and integration with Yandex’s ecosystem, while pointing to features missing compared with more established products such as MyOffice and R7-Office. The idea that Yandex will expand the product for corporate customers remains the reviewer’s assessment, not an announced company plan.
