The stolen shipment is valued at about €5 million. Thieves took premium wines prepared for overseas buyers.

About 30,000 bottles were stolen from a Marchesi Antinori storage facility in Cortona, Tuscany. Italian media have described the theft as the country’s biggest wine heist by value. Reuters and ANSA report an estimated loss of about €5 million.

Published accounts say at least seven masked people disabled the alarm, entered the warehouse and used forklifts to load cases onto two trucks. The shipment had been prepared for overseas distributors. The stolen labels included Solaia, Tignanello and Guado al Tasso.

Italian police are investigating. The company has warned customers to be wary of offers outside official sales channels. Serial numbers and batch codes may help establish the bottles’ provenance.
