Airbus flight from Santiago transmits emergency code off Chile’s coast

A passenger Airbus flying from Santiago to Trujillo transmitted emergency code 7700 off Chile’s coast, RIA Novosti reported on October 10, citing Flightradar24 tracking data.
According to the published tracking information, the aircraft left Santiago airport at 22:11 local time and flew north. Its scheduled destination was Trujillo airport in Peru. After transmitting the emergency code, the aircraft was heading toward Antofagasta.
Squawk 7700 is a universal transponder code used for a general emergency on board. The code alone does not indicate an immediate risk of a crash or identify the reason for the signal. The agency’s account records the transmitted code and the direction of travel shown by the flight-tracking service.
