The Kazakh tennis player said a car door was damaged as passengers got out of a taxi. He said he was unharmed and had managed to move his leg out of the way.
Bublik described the incident in a video posted to his Telegram channel. He said a woman had damaged the car door as passengers were getting out of a taxi. “I’m alive and well, thank God,” the tennis player said. He added that he had not stuck his leg out and avoided injury.
The incident happened in Shanghai, where the ATP Masters 1000 tournament began on Oct. 7. Bublik is seeded and will enter the competition in the second round. He is due to face Czech player Tomas Machac on Oct. 10.
Bublik has represented Kazakhstan since 2016 and has won nine ATP titles. The Shanghai tournament, which has a $9.415 million prize fund, runs through Oct. 18.
