APSRTC pledges support for driver’s family after safe bus stop

APSRTC chairman Konakalla Narayana Rao pledged support on October 9 for the family of Jetti Siva, a driver who stopped a bus carrying about 40 passengers before collapsing the previous day.

According to Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation officials, the 34-year-old was driving from Kakinada to Visakhapatnam when his pain became severe near Tuni. He steered the bus to the roadside, parked it and collapsed at the wheel. He was declared dead after being taken to hospital.

The Hindu reported that Siva suffered a heart attack. Narayana Rao praised his presence of mind and responsibility, saying the safe stop had prevented a major accident. That was the transport corporation chairman’s assessment of his actions.

Narayana Rao offered condolences and said APSRTC would take the necessary steps to help the family under its applicable rules. The statement did not specify a payment amount or particular support measures.

The chairman described Siva’s commitment to passenger safety as an example for corporation employees. He said APSRTC would remember his service and provide all possible support to his family.
