Andhra Pradesh teachers' federation selects legislative council candidate
The Andhra Pradesh Teachers Federation has selected P. Panduranga Varaprasada Rao as its candidate for the Krishna–Guntur Teachers' Legislative Council constituency election.
The decision was taken at an October 11 meeting in Vijayawada chaired by Chennupati Manjula. The federation's sub-committee considered views from executive bodies and committees covering the former combined Krishna, Guntur and Eluru districts.
Members unanimously supported Rao. He has spent nearly four decades in the teachers' movement, serving as general secretary of the federation's Krishna district branch, a state sub-committee member and state general secretary.
Current state general secretary K. Basavalinga Rao said the candidate understood the education sector's challenges and could represent teachers' interests. That is the assessment of the federation backing his candidacy.
The announcement concerns the organisation's selection of a candidate. It does not mean he has won the election or been appointed to the Legislative Council.
