Naidu promises up to 40% of TDP local election places to Backward Classes

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu said the Telugu Desam Party would allocate up to 40% of its places in upcoming local elections to Backward Classes candidates.

Naidu outlined the commitment during a virtual meeting with senior party leaders on Sunday, October 11. He presented local elections as an opportunity to promote leaders from disadvantaged communities, while protecting the interests of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.

He also said election results would determine how party leaders were assessed. Candidate selection would take account of prospects of victory, honesty, efficiency and social representation. The party would rate leaders according to their performance during the campaign.

The TDP leader called for coordination with its coalition partners, the Jana Sena Party and the Bharatiya Janata Party. He urged party workers to campaign on the government's Super Six promises and other achievements.

The announcement concerns the party's allocation of election places. It was made as part of preparations for the local polls. Naidu also criticised the opposition YSR Congress Party, accusing it of delaying elections and undermining representation for Backward Classes.
