A hospital superintendent in Siwan, India, said CCTV footage would be examined after the Times of India reported that a man was seen approaching a body and allegedly removing a chain. The newspaper said the video’s authenticity and the man’s identity have not been independently established.
Hospital sources identified the man in the footage as Bablu Kumar, a claim that also remains unverified. The Times of India reported that superintendent Anil Kumar Singh said he had not known about the incident before the report. He said the cameras would be checked and the hospital would contact local police if the person responsible could be identified.
The report said it was unclear whether the deceased person’s relatives knew about the chain’s alleged removal or had consented to it. The video raised questions about how an outsider could reach an area where bodies are kept despite security staff and CCTV cameras.
The newspaper also referred to an earlier complaint from relatives of 35-year-old Aarti Devi, who said a silver anklet went missing after she died on the way to Siwan hospital. The Times of India said a hospital sanitation worker was handed over to police after CCTV footage was reviewed.
Other allegations against the man, attributed by the newspaper to hospital sources, have not been independently verified and are not treated here as established facts. The review is expected to establish whether the chain was removed, who appeared in the footage and how the person reached the body.
