Brian Orser discusses contact with Evgenia Medvedeva and former pupils

Canadian coach Brian Orser said he remains in contact with Evgenia Medvedeva, discussing his relationships with former pupils at a press conference in Almaty on October 9.

The press conference took place during the Denis Ten Memorial Challenger event. A Match TV correspondent reported the coach's remarks. The Russian skater trained with Orser in Toronto from 2018 to 2020.

Orser also spoke about Spain's Javier Fernandez and Japan's Yuzuru Hanyu. He said he sometimes trains with Fernandez, while his contact with Hanyu is more often by telephone. He mentioned staying in touch with Medvedeva in the same account of his former students.

The coach said the COVID-19 pandemic changed figure skating as many athletes returned home and training stopped. He is now rebuilding connections and recruiting skaters. Orser added that his group includes more juniors this year.
