Bruna Marquezine told CNN Brasil that she sees parts of herself in Bia, the lead character of “Amor da Minha Vida,” and considers it important for fiction to address mental health.

The actor said she has experienced depression and lives with anxiety. She said those experiences helped her understand Bia’s feelings, including issues tied to her work and career. The show’s second season premieres on Disney+ on Friday, Oct. 9.

In the new episodes, Bia faces the consequences of rekindling a relationship and the pressures of adult life, which may force her to choose between the relationship and her ambitions. Marquezine said viewers’ connection with characters can help them make sense of their own feelings.

She added that fiction can offer comfort to people facing similar situations and may encourage them to talk to someone or seek help. “Amor da Minha Vida” follows Bia and Victor through relationship conflicts and other challenges of adulthood.
