CAF’s 54 member associations back Infantino, Motsepe says

All 54 member associations of the Confederation of African Football support Gianni Infantino’s bid for another term as FIFA president, CAF chief Patrice Motsepe said.

Motsepe made the statement at CAF’s strategic conference in Cape Verde, which Infantino also attended. He said the backing reflected, among other things, Infantino’s contribution to African football. SABC News separately reported that representatives of all 54 CAF associations were at the conference.

The declaration comes amid a dispute over FIFA’s leadership. UEFA said on October 8 that all of its national associations except Azerbaijan had agreed on a direction for FIFA reform and reiterated that they had lost confidence in the organization’s current leadership. UEFA also called for new leadership without naming a specific candidate in that statement.

Infantino plans to seek another term in an election scheduled for March 18, 2027, in Rabat. UEFA, the Asian Football Confederation and CONCACAF had previously criticized the FIFA Forward Enterprise project.
