October is expected to be warmer than average, with icy conditions and subzero temperatures possible from early next month.
Central Russia should not expect icy conditions and subzero temperatures before early November, said Tatiana Pozdnyakova, a leading specialist at the Moscow weather bureau. Her comments were reported by Abzats. October is forecast to be warmer than the seasonal average.
Pozdnyakova said ice usually forms in the final days of October or the first days of November. The precise conditions will depend on the weather, but she does not expect temperatures to fall below zero earlier.
Separately, the Emergencies Ministry warned of severe weather in Sverdlovsk region after snowfall in Yekaterinburg overnight on Oct. 5. Heavy rain and wet snow, as well as icy conditions, were forecast. Drivers who had not yet switched to winter tyres were urged to avoid travelling at night.
