Clashes follow university funding protest outside Argentina's Congress

Eight police officers were injured during clashes outside Argentina's Congress in Buenos Aires on October 15, local television reported.
Thousands gathered to demand implementation of the university funding law. RIA Novosti, citing A24, reported that the demonstration initially passed peacefully before masked people approached barriers around Congress and threw stones and bottles at police. Officers used tear gas and water cannon.
A24 initially reported 25 arrests. TN subsequently put the number detained at 31 and also reported eight injured officers.
The protest concerned funding legislation passed by Congress in 2025 and vetoed by President Javier Milei. Congress overrode the veto, but implementation remained disputed. In the statement read outside Congress, organisers demanded compliance with the law and court rulings requiring its application.
