After 45 hearings in the case over Diego Maradona’s death, prosecutors and defence lawyers began their closing arguments. Prosecutor Patricio Ferrari said the footballer did not receive adequate care after surgery in 2020.
The prosecution alleges that the medical team responsible for Maradona’s health and treatment acted inadequately, insufficiently and carelessly. Ferrari said Maradona was discharged from hospital on November 11, 2020, and placed in a home where he died 14 days later.
The prosecutor called Maradona a “time bomb” and argued that the conditions for home monitoring did not match his medical needs. Ferrari said the house had no gloves, gauze, first-aid kit or defibrillator.
Closing arguments follow more than 100 statements from witnesses and defendants. The case concerns medical professionals who monitored and treated the footballer. The court will assess their conduct and the defence arguments. The prosecution’s allegations have not been established as a judicial finding.
