CNN says technical failures derail US election-security briefing

US intelligence officials postponed a classified briefing for election officials on foreign threats because of video-call problems, CNN reported, citing six people familiar with the matter.

The briefing was planned for October fifteen. Officials from the FBI and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence were to lead it, with the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency helping facilitate the meeting.

Invitations went out only a few days beforehand, CNN’s sources said. Some election officials who wanted to attend could not connect. Participants who had rearranged their schedules were frustrated by the technical difficulties.

Three sources told CNN it would have been the first classified federal-agency briefing for election officials on foreign-state threats since the twenty twenty-four presidential election.

The US midterm elections take place on November three, when voters will elect the House of Representatives and part of the Senate.
