COSATU leadership ballot narrows to ten candidates

The Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) prepared a ballot with ten candidates for its six highest leadership positions. Voting at its 15th national congress in Kempton Park was scheduled for the afternoon of October 13, SABC reported.
Twelve candidates had initially been selected. One declined nomination, while another was disqualified because the nomination was submitted after the deadline.
COSATU president Zingiswa Losi told delegates there had been no opposition to a proposal to vote after lunch. Once ballots were prepared and printed, the process was to return to the plenary session for voting.
The congress resumed after a September collapse caused by disputes over delegate eligibility. The latest stage concerns the selection of office-holders, rather than merely restarting proceedings.
The report on ballot preparation did not provide election results. Inclusion on the ballot does not mean a candidate has already secured a leadership position.
