Mysuru Dasara sports meet winners promised higher cash prizes

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister G. Parameshwara announced higher cash prizes for winners of the Dasara sports meet in Mysuru on October 11.

He made the announcement while opening the CM Cup 2026 tournament at Chamundi Vihar Indoor Stadium. Parameshwara, who also holds the sports portfolio, said the state government would support athletes through financial incentives, employment opportunities and infrastructure development.

The Hindu's report did not specify the new amounts for the Dasara competition itself. Separately, the minister cited awards for international medallists: 10 million rupees for gold, 7.5 million for silver and 5 million for bronze.

Parameshwara also outlined a two-percent reservation for athletes in government recruitment. He said authorities would support competitors even though financial incentives could not fully compensate for their efforts.

Legislative Assembly member Tanveer Sait called for better training facilities in districts to help athletes compete at national and international levels.

Asian Games-winning golfer Pranavi Urs and Commonwealth Games medallist and para-athlete Shilpa K.S. were honoured at the ceremony.
