Telangana adviser urges farmers to skip second crop amid water shortages

Telangana government adviser P. Sudarshan Reddy urged farmers on October 11 to avoid sowing the Rabi crop, citing shortages of water and electricity in the Indian state.

The Bodhan legislator linked his appeal to falling water levels in reservoirs, lakes and tanks, alongside declining groundwater. He said the state was already experiencing drought-like conditions. The Hindu and IANS reported his remarks.

Reddy said available water in the Singur and Nizamsagar project areas was being reserved for drinking needs. He estimated that Singur's supply could meet those needs until December 2026 and asked officials to plan water management beyond that period.

The adviser also called for careful use of water and electricity and proposed local committees to inform residents about conservation. His recommendation to skip a second crop reflects concern about additional demand on limited resources. The reports of his statement do not establish a legal ban on sowing.
