Delhi court gives Brij Bhushan time to answer wrestlers' appeal

A Delhi court gave former Wrestling Federation of India chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh time on October 9 to respond to four wrestlers' appeal. The next hearing is scheduled for October 28.

The appeal challenges his acquittal in a sexual harassment case. Judge Dig Vinay Singh had previously issued notices to Singh, the State and former federation assistant secretary Vinod Tomar.

At the hearing, the prosecutor said Delhi Police had not decided whether to file its own appeal. He requested 15 days to inform the court of that decision, leaving the police position on a separate challenge unresolved.

The judge said proceedings would take place in camera once arguments began. Singh attended the hearing.

The acquittal was issued in August in a case brought by six wrestlers. Four filed an appeal on September 25, alleging an erroneous and selective assessment of evidence. Those arguments remain for the court to consider. Granting time to respond does not overturn the acquittal.
