Mamata Banerjee detained after South Avenue sit-in in Delhi

Delhi police detained Mamata Banerjee and other Trinamool Congress leaders at a South Avenue bus stop on October 10 after they were prevented from travelling to the Jantar Mantar protest.
The former West Bengal chief minister and her colleagues staged a sit-in with placards supporting democracy and accusing the election commission of wrongdoing. Those accusations reflected the protesters' position.
NDTV separately reported that five party MPs, including Derek O'Brien and Dola Sen, were detained with Banerjee and taken away in a police bus.
The demonstration concerned the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, known as SIR. Opposition protesters demanded Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar's resignation.
The detention report does not describe a court conviction or establish the truth of the protesters' allegations about electoral misconduct.
