Delhi University asks campuses for safety reports by October 12

Colleges, departments and hostels must review lighting, CCTV, blind spots and measures to protect women. The university says findings will be sent to Delhi’s top officials.
Delhi University has asked its colleges, departments and hostels to conduct comprehensive safety assessments and submit detailed reports by 5 p.m. on October 12. Proctor Manoj Singh issued the request after an online meeting with college principals, deans and campus representatives on October 9.
The review is to cover lighting, CCTV, blind spots, building conditions and other risks. The university also called for trimming tree branches that obstruct visibility and for prompt repairs to damaged structures. Measures cited to protect women include a stronger police presence, pink help booths and the Vamika van mobile service.
The university asked institutions to continue gender-sensitization sessions and arrange a seven-day self-defence course for women students. The women’s helpline number 1091 and emergency number 112 should be displayed prominently across campuses.
University officials said the findings would be submitted to the Lieutenant Governor and the Chief Minister of Delhi. Reports are expected to identify problems and outline the steps institutions plan to take.
