Dmitry Igdisamov explains why two CSKA striker options fell through

CSKA head coach Dmitry Igdisamov told Sport-Express that payment difficulties and players’ concerns about moving to Russia prevented the club from signing a striker in the summer. In the interview published on October 10, he described two unsuccessful options.

Igdisamov was responding to a question about plans to strengthen the centre-forward position previously outlined by general director Roman Babayev. He considers some players’ reluctance to move to Russia a problem shared by Russian clubs.

One option stalled because of a complicated payment arrangement. According to Igdisamov, the other club refused to accept transfers of money because it feared sanctions. He did not identify the club or player in that part of the interview.

The second option involved Simon Banza. Igdisamov said personal terms had been agreed, but the striker continued to question whether the move was safe. In the coach’s account, the player’s father ultimately advised against it.

Igdisamov emphasised that concerns among players’ families and advisers influence their decisions. His explanation concerns negotiations during the previous summer window rather than an announcement of a new transfer agreement.

Sport-Express’s background note says CSKA were fourth in the Russian Premier League with 19 points after the ninth round. That position refers to the standings at the end of that round.
