Igdisamov explains CSKA's difficulty finding Barinov's best position

CSKA coach Dmitry Igdisamov says the team had insufficient time to identify Dmitry Barinov's best position before his injury. In a Sport-Express interview, he linked the problem to the midfielder's adaptation and changing demands following a coaching change.

Barinov moved from Lokomotiv in January 2026. Igdisamov noted that the player had spent his entire career at one club before making his first team switch. His adjustment coincided with a period when CSKA was below its best from winter into spring.

After Igdisamov's appointment, the midfielder had to learn new requirements. The coach believes a system with three central defenders might have made it easier to find a suitable role, but injury interrupted that work. He said Barinov would be unavailable for the coming months.

Igdisamov emphasised Barinov's importance in the dressing room, describing his support for younger players and strong character. He also wished Igor Akinfeev, Milan Gajić and Moisés a speedy recovery as the team awaits their return.

According to the publication, the 30-year-old Barinov has made five appearances this season without a goal or assist. Igdisamov did not give a specific return date.
