Donald Trump selects Katie Zacharia as White House press secretary

Donald Trump announced on October 9 that Katie Zacharia will become the next White House press secretary. She will succeed Karoline Leavitt, who left the position in August.
RIA Novosti initially reported the selection, citing sources quoted by The New York Times. The US president subsequently confirmed the appointment on Truth Social, Associated Press reported.
Zacharia works as a communications adviser at Trump Media & Technology Group. The company operates Truth Social, the social network Trump uses for public announcements.
The conservative commentator previously spent a short period working at the US Department of Homeland Security. According to RIA Novosti, she served as a spokesperson for Kristi Noem, who headed the department from January 2025 to March 2026.
Zacharia also regularly appears in conservative media. Her predecessor, Leavitt, departed in August. Trump's announcement therefore fills the role left vacant following the previous press secretary's departure.
