Keralam Assembly sets October session agenda for legislation and spending

The second session of the 16th Keralam Legislative Assembly will run from October 12 to 29, with nine sittings. Speaker Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan announced the schedule on October 9.
The approved agenda includes the Kerala Court Fees and Suits Valuation (Amendment) Bill, 2026 and the Madras Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (Amendment) Bill, 2026. Two additional Bills could be included following a decision by the Business Advisory Committee, which meets on Monday, October 12.
The session is chiefly devoted to government business. Supplementary spending demands for the 2026–27 Revised Budget are due to be tabled on October 15. The Assembly will not sit from October 19 to 23.
Discussion and voting on the supplementary demands for 2026–27 and excess spending demands for 2016–17, 2017–18, 2018–19, 2020–21 and 2021–22 are scheduled for October 26. The related Appropriation Bills will be considered on October 29, the final sitting day.
The Speaker also addressed the legislature’s name following the state’s official change from Kerala to Keralam in August. He said consultations with grammarians confirmed that Keralaniyamasabha was correct as a single Malayalam word.
