ED seeks faster hearings in Jagan Mohan Reddy laundering cases

The Enforcement Directorate said on October 10 that it had asked the Telangana High Court to order daily hearings in money-laundering cases against Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy and other accused people. It argues that proceedings have been delayed for nearly 10 years.
The petition is dated September 23, 2026. ED seeks faster hearings and the personal appearance of defendants in proceedings under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002. The Hindu and Times of India reported the request.
According to the agency, nine prosecution complaints were filed at the Special Court for CBI Cases in Nampally, Hyderabad, between 2016 and 2021. Although the court took cognisance, the proceedings remain at a preliminary stage because discharge applications are unresolved.
The investigation stems from Central Bureau of Investigation cases initiated following court directions in 2011. Investigators allege that businesses received government favours in exchange for investments in companies linked to Jagan Mohan Reddy and his family during his father Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy’s administration.
ED alleges that shares were purchased at inflated premiums. Named investors include Aurobindo Pharma, Hetero Drugs, Indu Projects, Indu Techzone, Lepakshi Knowledge Hub, VANPIC Projects, VANPIC Ports, Nimmagadda Prasad, Ramky Pharma City (India) and India Cements. The agency identifies Bharati Cement Corporation, Jagati Publications and Janani Infrastructure as recipients.
The petition invokes the right to a speedy trial under Article 21 of the Constitution and cites Supreme Court observations from a 2013 proceeding on the seriousness of economic offences.
The requested daily hearings would cover both prosecution complaints and discharge applications. ED says its investigation continues. The allegations represent the investigators’ case, and a request to accelerate proceedings does not establish the defendants’ guilt.
