Elche captain and wife say no court case is open against him

Spanish media reported that Josan Ferrández was detained after his wife made an allegation of domestic abuse. The footballer and his wife later issued a joint statement saying there is no open court case against him.

According to the newspaper Información, cited by RIA Novosti and local radio stations, the 36-year-old midfielder was detained overnight on Tuesday in Callosa de Segura. On Wednesday morning he was brought before a court in Orihuela that handles violence-against-women cases and gave a statement.

RIA Novosti’s initial report said the player’s wife had included WhatsApp messages and photographs of bruises allegedly caused by abuse in her complaint. Those details remain allegations reported by a source, not findings established by a court.

Josan and his wife later said they were going through a divorce and that there is currently no open judicial proceeding against the footballer. Elche CF also told local media it knew of no active case or complaint pending against him. Public reports do not fully clarify the procedural status.
