Ukraine’s DTEK energy company said an emergency power outage had occurred in Kyiv, temporarily suspending the usual outage schedules.
Earlier on Thursday, October 8, the city administration said train services and escalators in the Kyiv Metro had been suspended because of a drop in voltage. Ukrainian parliament member Yaroslav Zhelezniak also said offices housing the parliament’s energy and tax policy committees had lost power.
The Associated Press, citing DTEK, reported that emergency outages in Kyiv were ordered by Ukrenergo, the national grid operator. Scheduled power cuts are suspended while emergency outages are in effect. The energy company did not specify which districts were affected or when electricity would be restored. DTEK posted its notice on Telegram.
