The massive security operation is aimed at managing the expected movement of lakhs of devotees and thousands of Ganesh idols that will travel from Hyderabad, Cyberabad, Malkajgiri, Future City and surrounding districts to the immersion sites at Khairatabad and Balapur.
Officials said around 25 lakh worshippers have already visited the Khairatabad Ganesh and nearly 15 lakh have been to the Balapur idol, prompting additional security measures at both locations ahead of the crowded final day.
Preparations began almost three months ago under Hyderabad Commissioner of Police V.C. Sajjanar, who convened coordination meetings with government departments, idol manufacturers, festival organisers and peace committees. An online portal processed 15,426 pandal permission applications, of which 14,929 were approved after physical verification; the sanctioned pandals have been geo‑tagged and safety posters in Hindi and Telugu installed.
Surveillance will be bolstered by more than 10,000 CCTV cameras linked to the Telangana State Police Integrated Command and Control Centre in Banjara Hills, alongside 24 drones and roughly 100 high‑rise cameras that will monitor crowd density and procession flow. Police equipped with binoculars and wireless communication systems are positioned on rooftops, while round‑the‑clock control rooms operate at NTR Marg, People’s Plaza, Necklace Road and Moghalpura Sports Complex.
Rescue boats and expert divers from the Indian Army and the Tourism department stand ready at major water bodies, complemented by ambulances with paramedical staff, fire tenders, generators, watchtowers and standby mechanics to address vehicle breakdowns. About 20,000 personnel from law‑and‑order, traffic, task force, special branch, city security wing and city armed reserve units will be on duty, supported by 8,142 officers from other districts organised into 42 platoons across seven security zones.
Four companies of the Rapid Action Force have been deployed in Charminar, Golconda, Rajendranagar and Shamshabad, while two CRPF companies are stationed at Khairatabad and Secunderabad. Fifty‑three bomb‑detection teams are conducting checks at entry points, bus terminals, railway stations and shopping malls. The police have also banned DJ systems, high‑decibel audio equipment and firecrackers for the procession, citing Supreme Court guidelines on noise pollution and public health, and warned of seizure and legal action for violations.
