Exeter beat Newcastle despite Wade’s milestone hat-trick

Exeter Chiefs beat Newcastle Red Bulls 34-28 on October 11 to claim their first win of the English Premiership season.

Christian Wade scored three tries for the visitors, taking his top-flight total to 100. He became the second player to reach that milestone and moved within one of Chris Ashton’s record of 101.

Ross Vintcent scored twice for Exeter, but Newcastle led 21-19 at half-time. Sam Harris crossed after the break before Henry Slade’s penalty restored the home side’s advantage.

Bachuki Tchumbadze added Exeter’s final try in the 76th minute. The match drew 7,071 spectators to Sandy Park. Exeter winger Immanuel Feyi-Waboso left with a hamstring problem, with no confirmed recovery timetable announced.
