Battle's two interceptions help Bengals beat Dolphins
The Cincinnati Bengals beat the Miami Dolphins 31-24 in their Oct. 11 NFL matchup. Jordan Battle intercepted Malik Willis twice in the second quarter.
Before the game, Battle said the defense had noticed a feature of the Miami quarterback's throwing motion: he lightly taps the ball or takes his hand off it before releasing a pass. Battle believed that could help defenders anticipate the throw.
The first interception followed pressure from Boye Mafe, who touched the ball during the release and altered its trajectory. About five minutes later, Battle intercepted another pass, moving ahead of its intended receiver after Willis rolled out of the pocket.
Cincinnati scored a touchdown on the ensuing possession and led 21-7 at halftime. The club's game report confirms the visitors' final victory and Battle's two interceptions. However, the extent to which the identified feature of Willis' technique influenced those plays cannot be established.
