Federation Council committee backs four Russian Supreme Court nominees

A Federation Council committee on October 13 recommended appointing Oleg Nefedov as deputy chair of Russia's Supreme Court. It also endorsed three candidates for judicial posts.
Nefedov has been proposed for a position combining the deputy chairmanship with leadership of the court's civil cases panel. The committee also supported Larisa Shelomanova, Eduard Kaminsky and Lyubov Besschasnaya.
Artur Muravyov, the president's representative in the Federation Council, presented the nominations. Supreme Court chair Igor Krasnov provided information about the candidates.
The committee's recommendation does not complete their appointments. The full chamber will make the decision after discussion at a plenary session. In September, the Higher Qualification Board of Judges ended the tenure of former Supreme Court deputy chair Yuri Glazov at his request. He had headed the civil cases panel.
