Suraj Prabodh rallies to beat second seed at Fenesta Open

The Indian player recovered from losing the opening set to defeat Aditya Balsekar in three sets at the national championship in Delhi.

Suraj Prabodh staged a comeback against second seed Aditya Balsekar at the Fenesta Open National Tennis Championship. The 31-year-old won 3-6, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) at the DLTA Complex in Delhi. After dropping the first set, Prabodh adopted a more aggressive approach and said that he tried to take the initiative in rallies.

In the men’s singles draw, fifth seed Oges Jaya was eliminated in the first round by Raghav Jaisinghani, 5-7, 6-2, 4-6. Fourth seed Udit Kamboj avoided an upset, beating Aditya Mor 6-1, 7-5. In women’s singles, Aditi Rawat, Laxmi Siri Dandu and Sohini Mohanty advanced; Rawat defeated L. Arunkumar 6-3, 7-5.

Top seeds Manish Sureshkumar and Nitin Sinha reached the doubles quarterfinals with a 7-5, 6-2 win over Raghav Jaisinghani and Lakshit Sood. Aryan Chauhan and Karan Singh knocked out second seeds Madhwin Kamath and Rohan Mehra. In the under-18 draws, top seed Praneel Sharma advanced in the boys’ event, while S. Bhuvaneswaran and Shreeniti Chowdhury won in the girls’ competition.
