Rajasthan deploys inspectors to oversee fertiliser supply for rabi season

The state has assigned 744 inspectors to monitor urea and DAP distribution and curb hoarding, black marketing and illegal storage.

Rajasthan plans to ensure an uninterrupted supply of fertilisers to farmers during the upcoming rabi sowing season. At a state task force meeting on October 6, Chief Secretary V. Srinivas said the full quantity allocated by the central government should be distributed on time and according to demand.

A total of 744 fertiliser inspectors have been deployed across the state. Authorities also plan to curb hoarding, black marketing, forced tagging and illegal storage. Srinivas said distribution of urea and diammonium phosphate (DAP) would be smooth and transparent, and said there would be no shortage during the critical sowing period.

Principal Agriculture Secretary Manju Rajpal said committees under the Dharti Mata Bachao campaign regularly monitor availability. The Hindu reported state stocks of 373,000 metric tonnes of urea, 104,000 tonnes of DAP, 95,000 tonnes of NPK and 209,000 tonnes of single superphosphate. The central government allocates fertilisers by month and company; Rajasthan’s agriculture department has prepared district plans based on allocations and local demand.
