FIFA proposes $6.35 billion football development fund

FIFA has prepared a $6.35 billion football development proposal for the 2027–2030 cycle. Each of its 211 national member associations could receive $25 million instead of the previously planned $10 million, Associated Press reported.

The agency reviewed a document dated October 14. It linked higher distributions to the commercial performance of the 2026 World Cup, the first edition featuring 48 teams.

Each of the six continental confederations would receive $99 million. Women's and youth football development is identified as a particular focus for the funding.

The proposal follows controversy over FIFA Forward Enterprise, a project envisaging private investment in World Cup commercial rights. European football leaders opposed that project, which was abandoned after its announcement in July.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino intends to seek reelection on March 18, 2027, in Rabat.

According to the document reported by Associated Press, the financial plan is to be finalised by FIFA's council in December 2026. Final approval would follow at the organisation's congress in March 2027.
