Dagestan investigators open case over 143 million rouble nutrition purchase

Russia’s Investigative Committee opened a criminal case against the former head of pharmaceutical provision and procurement at Dagestan’s Health Ministry. Investigators allege that an unjustified purchase of therapeutic nutrition costing more than 143 million roubles left patients without necessary medicines.
Investigators say the official signed a contract with a commercial supplier in March 2026 without sufficient grounds for purchasing the therapeutic nutrition.
According to the committee, budget funds went towards the nutrition purchase while local residents with chronic illnesses did not receive the medicines they needed. Additional funding was then required to supply those drugs.
The suspect also allegedly cancelled previously submitted requests for essential medicines without justification. Investigators said this further disrupted timely supplies to patients.
The case concerns alleged abuse of official powers. It was opened on the basis of material supplied by the Federal Security Service’s Dagestan department.
