Wasim Jaffer questions Yashasvi Jaiswal's wicketkeeping experiment

Former India opener Wasim Jaffer has urged Yashasvi Jaiswal to prioritise batting, questioning the value of taking up wicketkeeping at 24.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Jaffer described the role as physically demanding and difficult to develop quickly without childhood experience, particularly in Test cricket. He also pointed to competition from Ishan Kishan, Sanju Samson and Rishabh Pant.
Mumbai captain Siddhesh Lad previously said Jaiswal was practising wicketkeeping as an additional skill alongside batting and leg-spin. Lad stressed that he lacked clarity about his teammate's long-term plans. No permanent change of role has been announced.
Jaffer suggested the experiment might reflect a desire to establish a place in India's white-ball teams. That was his assessment, rather than a confirmed explanation from Jaiswal.
Jaiswal is expected to play for Mumbai against Chandigarh in the Ranji Trophy opener at Wankhede Stadium on October 11. PTI reported that he kept wicket for about ten overs in a practice match.
