Free State political parties sign campaign conduct pledge

Political party representatives in South Africa's Free State signed the Electoral Code of Conduct on October 9 at Bloemfontein City Hall.
NovaNews reported that Judge Nokuthula Daniso read the code before party representatives signed their pledge. Its coverage showed participants from the DA, EFF and Patriotic Alliance. Electoral Commission chairperson Mosotho Moepya addressed the ceremony.
Ahead of the event, SABC said 21 parties contesting the 2026 local government elections were expected to take part. The ceremony was intended to reaffirm support for peaceful campaigning, mutual tolerance and voting without intimidation.
Moepya linked declining confidence in democratic institutions to economic hardship and shortcomings in municipal services. He also urged voters requiring special voting arrangements to apply by 5 p.m. on October 12. NovaNews reported that the local elections are scheduled for November 4.
