Mullin ties release of New York shooting records to end of investigation
U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin said on October 11 that information about a New York immigration-enforcement shooting would be released once the investigation is complete.
On CBS’s ‘Face the Nation’, host Margaret Brennan asked when officers’ body-camera footage would be made public. Mullin said the FBI and Homeland Security Investigations were continuing their inquiry. He did not give a release date.
The exchange concerned an incident the previous week in which an immigration officer wounded a man in a vehicle. His five-year-old son was in the car. Brennan noted that the child was unharmed, and Mullin agreed.
The secretary asserted that officers had not known the child was present and that the driver tried to evade them. Those assertions represent the department’s account. Discussing footage already released by police, Mullin said it did not provide other camera angles or the audio of the encounter.
