Gas pipeline rupture reported in Penza region

Emergency officials reported a high-pressure rupture and fire on a main gas pipeline near Volchkovo in Russia’s Penza region on Oct. 13. Preliminary information indicated no deaths or injuries.

The regional Emergencies Ministry deployed 34 people and 12 vehicles to deal with the incident. Interfax independently reported those figures and the absence of casualties as preliminary information.

Fire and rescue crews, police, ambulance personnel, gas emergency workers and electricity-network staff were sent to the site in the Belinsky district.

Lenta reported that grass nearby caught fire after the gas supply was shut off. The rupture is the reported immediate event, while the statement does not establish a detailed technical cause or the scale of damage.

The reports describe an emergency response in progress. They do not confirm completed repairs or a timetable for restoring the affected section.
