After her first Group 1 victory, Australian jockey Siena Grima is preparing to ride Althoff in Saturday’s Alan Brown Stakes, which carries A$1.5 million in prize money.
Last week, the 24-year-old Grima won the prestigious Epsom Handicap aboard God’s Window. It was her first Group 1 win and her first stakes-level victory.
On Saturday she will ride five-year-old Althoff in the 1,400-metre Group 3 race. The horse is trained by Chris Waller. The report says Althoff will start from barrier seven and carry 53 kilograms. He finished seventh in his previous race, less than three lengths behind the winner.
Waller said Grima knows the horse well and that her light weight suits the race. The jockey said Althoff had been in good form in training and had improved since his last start.
The name God’s Window made the Epsom win especially meaningful to Grima and her mentor Darren Beadman, who has spoken openly about his Christian faith. Grima dedicated the victory to her late grandparents and said faith was important to her family.
Grima is also booked to ride Elliptical, Miss Spacegirl and Lulumon on Saturday. Elliptical’s participation in one of the races has yet to be confirmed.
