Investigators open criminal case after Cessna landing in Sretensk

Russian transport investigators opened a criminal case after a light aircraft made a hard landing in Sretensk on October 10. The pilot and an aircraft technician were taken to hospital and later discharged for outpatient treatment, the regional governor said.
The Eastern Interregional Transport Investigations Directorate announced proceedings under Part 1 of Article 263 of the Russian Criminal Code, which concerns breaches of air transport safety and operating rules.
Interfax, citing the directorate, identified the aircraft as a Cessna 182 and reported that it came down on the runway in Sretensk, in Zabaykalsky Krai.
Preliminary information indicated that the engine failed during takeoff, RIA Novosti reported. The criminal investigation follows an initial transport safety inquiry into the landing.
Governor Alexander Osipov said the injured occupants had received the medical care they needed and were sent home in satisfactory condition. They will continue treatment without remaining in hospital.
