Kamchatka tests new fibre-optic link to four northern villages

A 375-kilometre fibre-optic link from Tilichiki to Manily in northern Kamchatka has entered commissioning, regional authorities said on October 16.
The section built in 2026 connects Khailino, Talovka, Kamenskoye and Manily to a single network. Regional authorities said more than 1,500 kilometres of fibre had now been laid across northern Kamchatka.
Governor Vladimir Solodov said the project was ahead of schedule. He initiated the programme, which received support from President Vladimir Putin.
Authorities put service availability at no less than 90%. They said the network would support access to public services and distance learning.
Before the onset of cold weather, crews plan to bring distribution networks to homes in Kamenskoye and Manily and switch mobile operators' base stations to LTE.
