Russia and India begin sea phase of Indra exercise in Sea of Japan

Russian and Indian naval forces are beginning the sea phase of Exercise Indra-2026 in the Sea of Japan, Russia's Defence Ministry said.
India's frigate INS Sahyadri previously arrived at Vladivostok, the Pacific Fleet's main base. The Russian corvette Hero of the Russian Federation Aldar Tsydenzhapov took part in the opening ceremony.
The ships will operate as a joint group and practise firing at sea and aerial targets. One scenario involves responding together to attacks by unmanned aircraft and uncrewed surface vessels, the Russian ministry said.
Crews will also conduct tactical manoeuvres, a boarding operation and the simulated rescue of a ship seized by terrorists.
The wider exercise involves Russian and Indian ground units and Russian aircraft. Its land component is scheduled for a Central Military District training ground in Chelyabinsk region. India's Defence Ministry previously put the naval exercise dates at October 13–18.
