Sudha Yadav appointed Karnataka governor

Indian President Droupadi Murmu named Sudha Yadav as Karnataka's next governor. The appointment takes effect when she assumes office.

The announcement on October 12 formed part of a set of gubernatorial appointments covering six states. The President's official communique said all the appointments would take effect when the respective governors assumed charge. The announcement therefore does not establish that Yadav has already begun her duties.

Yadav will be Karnataka's second woman governor. V.S. Rama Devi, the first, held the post from 1999 to 2002. The incumbent, Thaawar Chand Gehlot, has served since July 21, 2021.

Yadav is a Bharatiya Janata Party politician, a member of its Parliamentary Board and a former MP for Mahendragarh. She represented the constituency from 1999 to 2004 and served on the National Commission for Backward Classes. She holds a doctorate in chemistry from Roorkee.
