Albert Heijn resumes deliveries after cyber incident disrupts fresh food supplies
Some Albert Heijn stores have faced fruit and vegetable shortages as parent company Ahold Delhaize begins a controlled restart of certain systems.
In its October 13 update, Ahold Delhaize said some systems had been taken offline as a precaution after a cybersecurity incident. It is working with external experts and restoring systems in stages. Its stores in Europe and the United States remain open.
Dutch broadcaster NH reported that several Albert Heijn distribution centres were supplying stores again, with extra deliveries being arranged. This does not establish a complete recovery: product availability can still differ by store and category.
De Telegraaf reported fresh-food shortages at stores in Utrecht and Amsterdam. Albert Heijn expects bread, frozen items and longer-life products to remain more available than some vegetables and fruit.
The chain also warned that some shelf labels could display outdated promotional prices and advised customers to keep receipts. Ahold Delhaize said it currently has no evidence of customer or employee data being taken. The investigation into the incident continues.
